An external review that led to real improvement

Published research, not one of our clients.

The problem

In England, inspectors (Ofsted) visit schools at short notice, publish their findings and rate each school. Does an outside judgement actually help schools improve?

What they did

An economist studied English primary schools after inspectors rated them as failing, and compared their later results with similar schools.

The result

After a fail rating, pupils' test scores rose significantly. The biggest gains were for pupils who had been lower-achieving. The study also checked for "gaming" of results and how accurate the ratings were.

What this means for your school

An honest external review, with clear standards and follow-up, pushes real improvement. Our mock visits give you that outside view early, so you can fix gaps before the real visit.
